Master’s students, PhD candidates, researchers who have recently completed graduate-level studies (graduated after August 2008) are invited to submit a proposal to The Center for Health Design's Research Coalition for up to $3,000. The Request for Proposals (RFP) for this New Investigator Award is open beginning August 1, 2011. Proposals are due by September 15, 2011.
The award seeks to support researchers in the early phases of their careers whose research addresses:
- Increased patient safety through environmental design;
- Increased patient satisfaction and quality of care through environmental design; and,
- Increased worker safety and effectiveness through environmental design.
Proposal Timeline
- August 1, 2011: New Investigator Award program is announced
- September 15, 2011: Applications are due to cquist [at] healthdesign [dot] org by 5:00 pm ET
- October 15, 2011: Award recipients (3) are announced
- November 2012: Recipient of first place award ($3,000) presents findings at HEALTHCARE DESIGN 2012

By introducing this award, the Research Coalition hopes to encourage more up-and-coming researchers to turn their attention to studying how the built environment impacts outcomes in healthcare environments. The remainder of the funds to support the development of CHD's online RIPPLE database. The decision to fund the completion of the open source, searchable database was determined by the group's mission to further the industry's access to design strategies, relevant research and outcomes and to offer future value to the profession. While funds will not be available for the larger award in 2011, they will be available again in 2012.
